The 3 changes I’m making to my writing routine to keep writing consistently
Ship30For30 ends today and it’s been a blast.
Like everybody else in the course, I asked myself how I should approach writing now, moving forward. After some thought, I realized I have to work on getting the basics right.
During the last days of Ship 30, I failed.
I failed to write essays in less than 2 hours. I failed to keep hold onto my sacred hours. I failed to write concise essays.
I knew I had to make changes
Well, I am not a quitter, so I kept writing nevertheless. But as you know, you don’t rise to the level of your motivation — you fall to the level of your systems. I went back to the drawing board and decided to re-design my writing system.
The structural changes I’m making
EIG generator. I set aside 1.5 hours every week for idea generation, instead of doing it every day before writing the essay. I realized starting to write is many times easier when you already know what the text will be about.
I’m enforcing a brick-hard 60 minute time limit. I struggled with keeping my time boundaries and ended up taking time from other essential activities like sleep. I believe uniformity is a prerequisite for consistency. Thus, I will prioritize keeping my time limit over publishing every day.
60 minute meditation. I’m conveyed your writing can only get as sharp as your thoughts. For at least 60 days, I set aside one hour in the morning for thinking, vast and small.
