How to use your body to feel and appear more confident

I used to believe there wasn’t anything I could do to get rid of the nervousness I felt in some social interactions.

Well, I was wrong. Today, I know of three ways to feel and act more relaxed:

1) General confidence, feeling comfortable with who you are.

2) Make yourself comfortable in the situation, physically or mentally.

3) Break a sweat, since your body will spill out hormones which make you feel relaxed.

This article will focus on the second way, making yourself feel comfortable.

3 ways to use your body to feel more comfortable mentally

Physical comfort leads to psychological comfort.

And we can use this to our advantage when we’re feeling mentally uncomfortable in a situation.

1) Don’t dress confident — dress comfortable. A suit and a tie doesn’t make you more confident. Instead, wear the clothes you feel the most comfortable in, mentally. I’m not saying you should attend your meeting with joggers, but rather go for a sweater you like than a suit you feel uncomfortable in.

2) Place yourself in a physically comfortable position. When stressed or nervous, our body naturally positions itself in a defensive position. If you feel uncomfortable psychologically, try to make you physically as comfortable as possible, as if you were sitting in your garden reading the news on a Sunday.

3) Keep an open body language. Instead of giving in to the urge of crossing your arms and closing your body language, open up. Eventually, you will feel more comfortable.
