In a digital environment that is becoming increasingly noisy, freelancers are required to find a way to stand out to potential clients, to cut through the noise. And how do you cut through noise? By a crystal clear one-liner.

Know what keeps your clients awake at night

Everyone says you have to “know your customer”, but was does that actually mean? Salespeople know that “knowing your customer” translates to knowing your customers’ problems and fears, what makes them happy and feel relieved. If you can put into words what keeps your clients awake at night, you know them. And you’ll know how to create an offer they care about.

Position your offer as the solution to their problem

Identify the selling points of your offer. Now that you know your customers, you have to focus on the one aspect of your offer that makes your clients thrive and feel relieved. Make this aspect stand out.

For instance, if you’re a e-mail copywriter, you know that e-mail marketing has an average 35–42X ROI. Given the nature of your offer, it makes sense for you to target e-commerce brands struggling to widen their margins. A fitting one-liner for your website would use this main selling point of your offer and name call your dream client. For example:

“Lower your ad spend and increase sales for your e-commerce business”

In summary, a great one-liner provides the reader with crystal clear understanding of what you do and for whom. Your target already knows why they care.
